When are you planning to start your investment journey?
Everyone has a unique investment journey. Mine began with Bonds. A Bond is a form of loan where the holder of the bond is the lender (you), lets the issuer of the bond (government or company) borrow money with a fixed interest rate and definite maturity date. These are offered by the partner banks of the issuer. *Please do more readings before investing.
Why did I choose bonds, Government Bonds to be exact, as my first financial product? No it was not because of the interest rate. Though most bonds have higher interest rates than savings products offered by banks, the gain from bonds is not really that big versus other investment products in the market.
The interest value of PhP 300 added in my bank account back then as my first income from the bonds I purchased is an immortal investing reminiscent of pleasure. That gratification conditioned me to search and shop more money-generating instruments in the market. When the government paid back the sum of the bonds I availed at the agreed maturity date, the emotions became more desirable, addictive but in a wholesome connotation. That feeling gave birth to my investing habit.
I elected bonds to be my first asset in my portfolio to teach myself a habit. I believe that one’s investing journey, though expectedly is filled with risks, should start with a rewarding emotional association of “It is true. I earned from it!” as a “When it was my first time to invest.” memory. That memory is a powerful take-off to the loftier heights of my narrative as a financial product shopaholic. Have you created such memory? You have to create it for your sake.

I bought a safe and fixed-rate financial instrument like Bonds not mainly with the expectation to gain big. I decided to buy some to create an enticing introduction of my investing journey. It motivated me a lot. My story has twists but is definitely not ending anytime soon. When are you going to start your investment journey?

A guide for the quarantined Mother’s Day celebration.
Had I known the lockdowns would be stretched this long, I would have gone home to spend everyday like it is Mother’s Day. Good thing, there is PayMaya!
If Dad influenced me with “people” traits that made Selling easier, Mom, on the other hand, raised me with an artillery of eloquence that made Networking a second nature.
I had to address Mom as “Teacher Eden” when I was in kindergarten. She was my Reading teacher at school.
“Teacher Eden” molded my confidence in public speaking, tactfulness, and love for bespoke haberdashery. As I compose this post to her, I miss her so much that if I had known the lockdowns would be stretched this long, I would have gone home to spend every day like it is Mother’s Day. Good thing, there is PayMaya!
To those away sons (and daughters) who want to honor their queen as the world dedicates a day for Moms (“quarantined” version this year), here is a guide on Online Treats you can purchase for her, contactless and cashless with convenience.
1. Mother’s Day cake
Make it sure that mom’s 2020 Mother’s Day memory is worth reminiscing through a photo on her timeline, home quarantined with a Mother’s Day cake. Send her a video greeting too and add a lovely bouquet if delivery is possible.

2. Be extra thoughtful with her well-being.
Sponsor her quarantine-long Vitamin C, disinfectants, beauty, and other health-pampering essentials. Encourage her to try at least an hour daily of decluttering the anxiety brought by being “locked at home” with a facial mask on, sips of a warm calming tea, and her favorite songs playing in the background. Send her a video of your Mother-son (-daughter) theme song, too! Ours is Eternal Flame by The Bangles. What is yours?

The #BalikBayad Campaign
The #BalikBayad campaign is a follow-up to PayMaya’s widely successful “Don’t Pay Cash. PayMaya!” campaign last year.
This campaign aims to highlight the monetary rewards in a form of cashback users get when they participate in PayMaya’s various promos for bills payment, buying load, paying for goods and services via QR, online shopping, and sending money, among many others. In fact, this February alone, PayMaya users can get as much as P6,000 from those cashless payment transactions.
PayMaya has also expanded the list of merchants and establishments under its PayMaya Preferred program, which gives additional cashback to users who scan to pay with PayMaya QR on top of the regular cashback that they usually receive. Some of these new partners include Landers Superstore, Mercury Drug, KFC, Robinson’s Department Store, Total Alabang and Valenzuela, and Toys ‘R Us, among many others.

“We’re very excited to have KathNiel representing the ‘BalikBayad’ campaign, because just as these two big celebrity icons have made a comeback for PayMaya this year, our users can also expect something to come back–in the form of cashback–every time they use PayMaya instead of cash,” said Mark Jason Dee, Head of Growth and Marketing of PayMaya.
The Campaign Video
Set as a typical ‘90’s action movie complete with guns, goons, and even the penultimate “Pinoy Kontrabida” in the form of Rez Cortez, the campaign video features the two young celebrities using the powers of PayMaya to tackle everyday transactions that are typically paid with cash, such as grocery shopping, paying bills, buying load, and online shopping, among many others. The PayMaya jingle which is set to the tune of the hit ‘90’s Eraserheads song “Ligaya,” was also featured in most of the scenes.
AN ACTION-PACKED “BALIKBAYAD” ADVENTURE WITH FRIENDS AND FOES. Local movie and TV celebrities Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla were officially unveiled as the newest brand ambassadors for PayMaya’s “BalikBayad” campaign through an action-packed video where they battle a common foe—cash. Present during the launch were the actors who played the “villains” in real life, led by veteran actor Rez Cortez (5th from right) along with his motley band of “goons” (seated). Supporting “KathNiel” during the launch, meanwhile, were they real-life friends Dominic Roque (leftmost), Ria Atayde (2nd from right), Juan Miguel Severo (2nd from right), and Joe Vargas (rightmost). Also in the photo are PayMaya executives led by Founder and CEO Orlando Vea (4th from left), President Shailesh Baidwan (4th from right), Head of Marketing and Growth Mark Jason Dee (3rd from right), and Heidi Garayblas (3rd from left).
The #BalikBayad campaign video is KathNiel’s come-back project after more than a year of not being seen together on-screen.
“PayMaya is a young and fun brand and we’re definitely lucky to have collaborated with Kathryn and Daniel in this campaign, because they represent the exciting and energetic lifestyles of most of our users,” Dee added.
