Bangkerohan – Davao City’s Largest Public Market Now Accepts Digital Payments

Bangkerohan is now a “Digi-Palengke” with Maya.

Maya, formerly PayMaya, is transforming Davao City’s Bangkerohan Public Market, with the launch of the Paleng-QR PH initiative. Starting November 23, Davao City’s biggest public market is a live “Digi-Palengke” where consumers, vendors and tricycle drivers enjoy the convenience of cashless payment transactions regardless of their e-wallet or bank accounts.

The Paleng-QR Ph program aims to digitalize transactions starting with public markets and local transportation. The program enables vendors and tricycle drivers to accept digital payments from customers regardless of their e-wallet or bank accounts via QR Ph, the national standard for QR payment. Maya’s QR codes are QR Ph-compliant, and its app can scan any QR Ph-powered transaction.  

Creating digi-palengkes, on the other hand, is part of Maya’s own LGUs Embracing and Accelerating Digitalization (L.E.A.D). “By promoting the interoperable QR PH national standard codes, Paleng-QR PH creates a simple but more powerful digital finance experience at the local community level. At Maya, we fully support Davao City’s vision to build a stronger digital ecosystem,” said Orlando Vea, Maya CEO and Founder and Maya Bank Co-Founder.  

“Basta QR PH, pwede kami sa Maya,” Vea added. 

The BSP’s QR Ph initiative is part of the overall financial services transformation roadmap of the Philippines. It aims to raise Filipinos’ trust in digital financial services, as consumers and enterprises will get used to sending and receiving cashless payments for everyday transactions.  

Maya’s full support to QR PH, in fact it is the first digital financial services platform to adopt QR Ph, is in line with the BSP’s thrust to increase the share of Filipino adults with a financial account from 56% in 2021 to 70% in 2023 and grow the volume of digital payments from 20% in 2021 to 50% by next year.

John Llamas Wins 2021 Davao Blogger Of The Year, Reacts To The Winning Nomination Statements

When you finally find the purpose for a passion, that is when you start doing anything for it consistently.

“I was in a virtual sales meeting with a client when the announcement was posted on the FB page. When the notification beep started to sound more of an alarm tone saying that I am tagged on a comment by several Davao Bloggers, I thought: I may have won!” John Llamas, the content creator behind the blog, Johndappercloser, and social media handle @Johndappercloser reminisced the winning moment. He is the 2021 Davao Blogger of Year. It is the most coveted annual accolade given to an official member of the Davao Bloggers Society who best represents the ideals and aspirations of the organization. This award is given to the blogger who has best served the organization and the community in 2021.

It is flattering that my fellow creators describe my Instagram photos as “high-quality”. Updating an IG feed was actually a challenge during the pandemic. Limited areas to shoot for content inside my living space as well as sporadic creative blocks as results of worrisome scoops from news channels, were just a few of the hurdles that we have to keep on overcoming to maintain the visual narrative of our handle. Knowing the core message that you want to resonate as a brand and sticking to a well-thought-out preset are helpful ways to enjoy creating intentional content on Instagram.
